Long gone are the days of sequins only being reserved for special occasions or holidays.

Sequins are splashing the runways and having an undeniable presence in festival and concert wear. Let’s dive into how sequins can be meshed into everyday wear, even for those grocery store runs (Yeah, we’re wearing sequin shorts to get eggs.) Every day should be a reason to wear a party staple without feeling overdressed! And even if you are overdressed—who cares?
1.Sequin Dresses Even If It’s Not A Night Out On The Town

That corporate meeting you’re probably dreading doesn’t have to be so daunting if you pair that pretty sequin dress with a casual blazer. This gives you a soft edge, allowing you to be fashionable without HR jumping on your case. Don’t wait to only wear that dress for a night out! Make every day a special occasion because you said so. I remember wearing a glossy Lime Green dress with a blazer, and believe me when I say confidence was radiating off me. I literally felt like the lead in a coming of age NYC movie. Of course I was probably a writer working in Chelsea wearing my sequin dress under a thrifted blazer, while balancing coffee I never finished.

So…no guarantees you’ll find this on the Urban Outfitters site BUT good news is it’s sold second-hand on Poshmark and Depop! If you get the dress—promise me we’ll take pictures like besties linking up for margaritas on a Tuesday. Deal?
2.Sequin Tops For An Elevated Look

Ditch that graphic tee you were probably going to wear for the third time this week and opt for a sequin top. Sequins are already a bold statement, but they are also versatile. So have fun pairing them with your favorite high-waisted jeans or those leopard print bottoms you can’t figure out how to style yet. I like to go for a tube sequin top to pair with my bottoms for a more spontaneous look. It’s like if a pop star decided to be off the clock for the day and show up to small town festival.
3.Sequin Blazers Instead of Your College Hoodie

Surprise! Surprise! Wearing a sequin blazer isn’t only limited to the holidays, specifically office parties with horrible egg nog and regret. A blazer with sequins (on crushed velvet fabric being my favorite) adds an air of sophistication to your outfit. I’m a South Florida girly, but some nights it gets a little chilly—you know, despite it being a humid desert all day. There’s nothing like pulling out my sequin blazer to not only keep me cozy but to keep me stylish as well. Covering up shouldn’t hide your outfit. Wear that blazer! Show those sequins!
4. Sequin Scarves As A Sparkly Backdrop That Ends Up Working

Okay, so I probably caught you off guard with a scarf, right? Scarves aren’t only meant to be worn around your neck—you can style them in a variety of ways. A sequin scarf makes for the perfect makeshift headband for when you’re having one of those days but still want to feel good. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worn a sequin scarf as a headband and automatically felt like a fashion queen. You can also use sequin scarves as an impromptu belt to spice up an outfit! Concert goers often incorporate sequin scarves as a fun addition to their themed outfits. Ask the Swifties, they’ll tell you.

Peep me wearing a scarf as a belt because exercising should feel like a Zumba class led by a former performer from the 80s.

Wearing sequin scarves like halter straps because we want an innovative way to flip the iconic 2000s look.
5. Sequin Bottoms For A Spicy Look

A plain shirt?
Sure. But what about a plain top with a sequin skirt? Or maybe sequin shorts?
This automatically gives your outfit some magic without overdoing it. I personally love to pair a plain top with a paillette sequin skirt because I need to feel like the life of the party while waiting in line at the USPS office (You know how long those lines can be). This also gives you a bit of playful energy, as sequins are meant to glisten, never meant to dim.

Ok, So Are You Wearing Sequins Yet?
With all the ways to style sequins in your everyday wear, there are no more excuses for waiting until December or a so-called special occasion. Make today a holiday by wearing that sequin dress or skirt you got from TJ Maxx ages ago. Sequins aren’t limited to the runways of the fashion world—they can expand into your everyday wardrobe, adding a fashionable twist. Now is your chance to rummage through your closet like you’re looking for your birth certificate for that sequin piece.

Most of the sequin pieces you see were thrifted, flipped, or made handmade! (The Goldfish Orange skirt used to be a dress!) So here’s a playlist for you to act like you’re at your own surprise party while looking for timeless sequin pieces!
